What is happening at N-Puzzle

N-Puzzle is a one-person project. This page shows what I am working on right now, what is planned next and what changed recently. A vote shows which feature is wanted most.

What is coming

Votes help with the order, but they are not the only factor. Some things depend on each other technically and have to wait, and some things I would just like to build first.

In progress

A brand-new puzzle game

A third game alongside NintenDoku and Perfect Game, with its own daily puzzle.

In progress

N-Puzzle on social media

A post about the puzzles every day. Live on Bluesky, Threads and Tumblr, Mastodon and Pinterest are next.

Balancing and polish

Categories, game data and puzzles are adjusted and corrected all the time, often based on player feedback.

Planned

Ranked NintenDoku

One on one in the same grid, with a rating that goes up or down after every duel.

Planned

Dark mode

A dark design for every game and page, switchable by hand or following your system setting.

Planned

More ways to log in

Backing up your progress to the cloud should work with more than a Google account.

On the side

Finishing Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave

Current progress: playing Dietrich’s Path.

💡 Got an idea?

Suggestions for new features, categories or game modes are always welcome. Submitted ideas do not appear here automatically, good ones get added by hand.

What changed

September 2026

  • New: the NintenDoku Archive to look things up. For every past day it shows the categories and the community results, in the daily puzzle and in Hardcore mode. The old puzzles cannot be played there.

  • New page “News and roadmap”: recent changes, planned features and a vote on what comes next.

  • Fixes based on community reports: The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords is now included, River City Ransom counts as a beat ’em up, Disney Illusion Island as a Metroidvania and Breath of Fire I and II as turn-based. The data for Pokkén Tournament has been corrected as well. On top of that, every fighting, beat ’em up, hack and slash and Metroidvania game now also counts as action. Thanks for the reports!

  • The broad before and after 2000 categories now only appear in the daily puzzle and in Unlimited Easy. In Hardcore mode and Unlimited Hard they were too easy.

  • Big database expansion: more than 850 new games were added last week, from Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan to Bomberman and Gundam.

  • Scores and playtimes added for 148 games, plus fixes such as Super Mario Maker 2 and Pokémon Champions.

  • Game data fixes, many of them based on community reports, including Super Mario Bros. 2, Mega Man Battle Network and Kirby's Toy Box. Red Steel 2 and Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic are new. Thanks for the reports!

  • N-Puzzle is now on Bluesky, Threads and Tumblr: a post about the new NintenDoku and Perfect Game puzzles every day.

  • Based on community feedback, every category built on Metacritic scores now only appears in Hardcore mode. In the regular puzzle they were hardly solvable without looking things up. Thanks for the feedback!

  • Official launch of the Discord bot: NintenDoku and Perfect Game every day in your own server, with results, leaderboards, recaps and reminders.

  • New collection reward in NintenDoku: the three most named games in every category, plus the most named games of the previous day in the recap.

  • The daily puzzle now leans more on well-known games. Titles hardly anyone knows are no longer required answers, but they still count as correct.

  • New design for the start screen with the daily puzzle, Unlimited and Hardcore mode.

  • The big database expansion begins: whole series such as Puyo Puyo, Crash Bandicoot and the Final Fantasy spin-offs are added.

August 2026

  • New recap in NintenDoku and Perfect Game: the community results of the previous day, compared with your own result.

  • Bug fixed: connection problems sometimes led to a different stand-in puzzle. Now a notice appears instead, with an option to try again. Thanks for the report!

  • Search suggestions now appear in a fresh order in every puzzle and no longer hint at when a game was added to the database.

  • New page Perfect Game in Numbers: how often players pick the real winner, split by sales, user score and critic score.

  • The Perfect Game collection now only counts games that can win a round. That makes it about a third smaller and easier to complete.

  • Full release of Perfect Game: three rounds every day about which Nintendo game sold better, is more popular or was rated higher.

July 2026

  • Perfect Game now shows three cards per round instead of six.

  • New page NintenDoku in Numbers: solve rates, score distribution and how often everyone lands on the same title.

  • New pages About N-Puzzle and Contact, plus detailed guides below NintenDoku and Perfect Game.

  • The “Paid DLC” category is now called “In-Game Purchases” and covers every real-money offer in a game.

  • Games that lack the data needed for a cell now show a notice in the search instead of silently costing an attempt.

June 2026

  • Perfect Game launches as an alpha.

  • “Discover Nintendo puzzles” now lets you switch directly between the games.

  • New categories in Hardcore mode: critics and players agree or disagree.

May 2026

  • Unlimited mode with two difficulty levels: Easy and Hard.

  • The daily puzzle is now generated on the server in advance and is the same for everyone worldwide from 6 am German time.

April 2026

  • Games released in several versions, such as Pokémon Red and Blue or Fire Emblem Fates, now count as a single game.

March 2026

  • NintenDoku launches with 600 games: a new grid every day, to be filled with matching Nintendo games.

  • n-puzzle.com goes online.

Something changes here almost every day, but I have not documented everything in detail. Sorry!
